The unlikely winner(s)…

The recently concluded Britain’s Got Talent and Jhalak Dikhlaja Season 3 (Celebrity Dance Contest) both had unlikely winners…

Susan Boyle, the recent youtube-sensation based on her unexpected performance on the show that broke the ceiling of misconceptions, lost to a dance group called Diversity and Gauhar Khan, the self proclaimed dancing queen, judge’s favorite on the Jhalak Dikhlaja show, lost to the football star and newly found dance badshah Baichung Bhutia in the recently concluded Jhalak Dikhlaja grand finale.

Both the losers were the favorites on the show and there was an air of expectancy around their winning. While the winners were not undeserving, they were unlikely – Baichung, for example, had the most creative choreographer I have seen and she used his strengths and moves really well in every sequence. The same holds true for Diversity, for what they achieved, for what they represent as a group and for the uniqueness of the choreographer – a well deserved win indeed!!!

Over the years that I have been watching reality shows, it feels like either the junta has really learned to work its powers or the producers of the show have learned that the most effective winner is a well deserving one with a wee bit of “unlikelihood” in the mix…for the surprise element!

For those of you who missed the shows you can watch them here (Diversity’s grand finale) and here (Baichung and Sonia’s best)
